What are we learning in Kindergarten?

 Our goal as educators is to spur our students’ curiosity and allow them to learn at their own pace. Each day is enriched with hands-on experiences and group activities, providing ample opportunities for students to improve their knowledge-base while developing social skills.

Reader's Workshop

During Reader's Workshop we are learning all about how to be a good reader. We are learning reading strategies such as:

  • Predicting what will happen before reading

  • Retting 3 things we remember from the story

  • Identifying who the Main Character is

  • Identifying When & Where the story takes place

  • Identifying the Problem and the solution in a story.

  • Identifying Cause & Effect within a story.

We have now started our Non-Fiction Unit. We are leaning all about Main Idea and supporting Details. 

​

 Phonics and Word Study 

  • Blending Sounds together (/b/ /a/ /t/= bat)

  • Segmenting Sounds (mop= /m/ /o/ /p/)

  • Digraphs: /ch/ like cheese; /sh/ like shark; /th/ like thimble 

  • How to write our first and last name correctly

  • Sight words

Writer's Workshop

During Writer's Workshop we are learning to write Personal Narrative.  These are true stories that include a beginning, middle and end. Our reader should be able to answer the following questions after reading our writing:
1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. Where does the story take place?
3. What event does the character experience?

Math Workshop

During Math workshop we are learning all about addition and subtraction! We are practicing adding and subtracting every day objects and even writing a number sentence to show our work!

Research Workshop (PBL)

We are learning all about Maps. We are learning how to read the map key, identify important features on a map and also how to create our own maps.
